I was at the desk while Officer Moss made the rounds. Lil Brittani from the hood... I was still experiencing a wow moment. She’s all grown up and married with no kids… Wow!
I admit, I figured she’d end up with a bunch of kids living in the projects! Boy was I wrong. She had really grown up! I had kept everything as business as possible. I couldn’t allow myself to fall back, even though I could tell she would be down for it. That in itself was cause for worry, because the woman definitely gave off the vibe of a single woman around me. She was not the same little girl I remember…
I left the hood the same year her brother fucked up a chance at NBA riches by being arrested his senior year at Georgia Tech for selling cocaine on campus. Things went downhill quickly for Steve after that. Playboy Steve with the wicked cross-over and deep three was now a crack head!
I saw him every time I went through the hood and checked on momma. My mother still lived beside Brittani’s mother and I didn’t expect this…well to see her again, especially on my job.
I looked back up at the top of the stairs and Officer Moss was still wrapped up in conversation with no other then Pooh McVay. I figured she knew him.
Pooh and his brother Dirt were legends in the hood. Money niggas that were certified with that iron play: Bout that life! Dirt was rich and free, while Pooh was serving two life sentences: one for drugs, the other for murder. He killed my cousin. His trial was high profile… To this day I don’t know why he murked my cousin.
The streets were talking. Pooh would have gotten away with the murder if his dumb ass hadn’t got jammed with the murder weapon when the D.E.A and U.S Marshals busted in on him to arrest him on drug charges.
When Pooh first hit the yard, he approached me about bringing him drugs. I told that fool we were still cool, but it wasn’t nothing! How did I look? He killed my favorite cousin! I told him straight that we weren’t rocking like that! That was two years ago and Pooh hasn’t spoken to me since.
I looked up there again and Pooh had her caught in his web listening. I’m gonna mind my business. I looked at my watch. Four more hours until end of my shift and I was ready to take my ass home and wake Gabby. I owed her for putting it on me this morning. I had to take a cold shower to bring me back!
Since she’s off tomorrow, I’m gonna call in sick and spend the day with her. I want to wine and dine her for getting out of pocket with her again. I don’t know what it was, but it was something about the look she always gave me when she asked about my past got me heated.
I knew I was rough, so I planned to make her forget about it by showing her the type of man she married.
